A thread for the J.P. Morgan Markets Summer Internship 2024
I don’t know too much about markets but want to give it a good shot. Is there a checklist of things we should probably know / prep for before the application/interview?
Hey User23,
Unfortunately there’s no one specific checklist, but as a rough guide, try to know the following:
-
Understand buy side vs sell side, sales vs trading
-
Have a basic understanding on asset classes (products) and potentially some trade ideas
-
Follow economic news (i.1. NAB morning call and Fear & Greed are good podcasts) so you are aware about what is going on in the industry
-
Standard behavs, like typical bank CV/CI stuff, why markets, why that specific bank,
-
Case studies are rly bank dependent, but if you need to participate in a case study some basic knowledge of probability and statistics is good, make sure to understand EV, variance, risk, min/max
Definitely not an exhaustive list by any means, but will set you up with a decent chance.
Thank you!!
Sorry what’s the difference between sales and trading?
Generally:
- sales is fully client facing and you prepare trades and research to send to clients in your asset class
- trading: you’re pricing stuff that doesn’t have a price. so you need to price based on what you know to be competitive but also maximise your profit and then take the risk on
