Should I submit a cover letter even if it's not mandatory?

I’ve been applying to places via linkedin and noticed that a lot of places have the option to submit a cover letter but it isnt compulsory. Does anyone know whether I should submit one anyway?

Generally it is good practice to submit one. It gives you the chance to stand out from the other candidates and give more insight around your experiences and fit to the company culture. While it can be a bit tedious, once you write up a structure you can just tailor it to each of the different firms you apply for.

I think it also depends on the industry, I’ve heard for tech they don’t read cover letters, and a lot of my friends who got the roles never submitted cover letters. But it is generally safer to just submit one anyway
