Hi, it doesn’t look like many companies are actively recruiting for graduate programs across December in Australia. Is there a best time to be looking for graduate jobs?

The “best time” sorta depends on what you’re applying for. E.g Management consulting all have their grad recruitment early in the year whereas tech and banking are a bit later in the year. I think some firms do hire all year round but they are less likely to be a “graduate program”, rather just a normal graduate role.
So as mentioned above, the timing does differ per industry. Typically however, most graduate program recruitment begins from mid-February - with a majority open around March-April. You’ll find industries like Accounting, Consulting and Trading will open first in that mid-February period and close throughout March (although in some cases like trading can be open until May!).
Other industries like Banking, Mining, Engineering Consulting, Tech and Government are more likely to open from early March although there can be exceptions to that (Telstra typically open mid-February for example).
You definitely want to make sure you’re applying and searching for jobs throughout March, as this is typically the key period for recruitment in Australia. However, don’t despair if you’ve missed this month, as more and more organisations are opening up applications throughout the year!
